Collins, John – Hot 100

We will definitely be seeing more of John Collins, ABN Amro’s new global legal head, in 2005. Collins was promoted to global head of legal last October following the departure of Laurie Adams.

The affable investment banking star is now responsible for managing ABN’s 150-strong legal department and for managing the bank’s relationship with external lawyers. And since taking the helm, Collins has already overhauled the legal function to ensure that all the bank’s products teams can get the best service from their in-house lawyers.

Last November ABN scooped the role advising Royal Dutch on the historic Shell restructure, handing Collins one of the most high-profile deals of 2005. Additionally, Collins’ team spent much of last year handling the bulk of the legal work arising out of the Paramalat bankruptcy.
