College of Law scoops Weil LPC mandate

US firm Weil Gotshal & Manges has signed up the College of Law to run its LPC+ course for it future trainee solicitors starting in September 2009.

Weil’s trainee solicitors will study at the college’s Moorgate branch with graduates from other firms for the first two terms and then spend the final term studying the firm’s tailored elective courses.

Graduate recruitment partner Jonathan Wood said: “We believe this will enable us to get our trainees even more up to speed when they start with us, by getting them used to our precedents and our approach to client services and for us to get to know them at this early stage.”

“It’s an important part of the long-term investment we make in training - an investment that’s essential if we’re to provide our clients with the highest quality of legal advice and service that they come to expect from Weil,” added Wood.

Weil is the latest in a string of firms to sign up for the College of Law for its bespoke LPC. Other firms include former City LPC consortium members Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance and Linklaters as well as Baker & McKenzie and Birmingham-based Wragge & Co.

College of Law chief executive Nigel Savage said: “It’s a significant move because US firms are increasingly recruiting trainees and building up their training infrastructure to replicate their UK competitors. I’m really pleased that we’re part of that trend.”
