  • Bit confusing for students perhaps? There's already a UoL (University of London) alive and kicking in the city...

  • I think this is the wrong move.

The College of Law is a brand people understand and value.

The University of Law sounds like one of those institutions that sells degrees out of the back of magazines for your 'life experience'.

  • I wonder how the University of London feel about College of Law marketing themselves as UoL?

On a more serious note I do wonder how the rebranding will affect students? The least impact they will feel is the redirection of funding surely?

  • Let it never be forgotten that Savage is paid almost half a million pounds a year for working for what is supposed to be (at last until recently) a charity . This makes me embarrassed to be a CoL alumnus and those responsible for presiding over and approving such excess should be ashamed of themselves.

  • University of Law is an oxymoron - what differentiates is a university from a college is that it teaches many subjects - hence 'universe'.

  • I agree with the above comments. I would add that sadly this change unhelpfully supports College of Law's contention that it is a 'proper' university. I fail to see how supplying jurisdiction-specific law courses necessary for practie (the GDL and LPC) can amount to a 'world-class' education. The College of Law is consistently de-valuing academic courses. For example, completion of a short thesis during the LPC will now lead to the award of an LL.M! Seriously?

  • Why does anyone actually care what it's called?

  • I agree. Some of their best teachers have left since the Montagu disgrace...no wonder. These marketing and profit-driven moves tend to run roughshod over staff. Savage may have got big firm sign-ups, but he's now leaving a deplorable legacy.

  • You guys have got to be kidding!

I was considering the College of Law for my LPC - I. Will be looking elsewhere now...

  • Having just accepted my place on the GDL at the College of Law in September 2013, I'm not very happy that it's being renamed, the University of Law sounds awful, but never mind...
