THE HEAD of Herbert Smith's education department, Alexandrina le Clezio, is to join the College of Law as director of continuing professional development. She leaves next month after six years at the City firm where she took articles and practised as a solicitor before setting up and heading the education department. She says: "I'm leaving one plum job for another. To be on the college board of management is very prestigious and it's a very exciting time to be doing it."In November, the college will broaden its base for continuing professional development, opening the course to those admitted after 1 November, 1982.Herbert Smith says it has no immediate plans to replace le Clezio. She says her departure will precipitate a review of education at the firm.Le Clezio was headhunted by two representatives from the college, in a wide-ranging search. They are believed to have considered company chief executives and in-house legal heads for the post.Le Clezio, formerly a curator at the British Museum, is a keen Egyptologist and was a member of the team which discovered the tomb of Horemheb, who succeeded Tutankhamun.
