Colemans-CTTS

UK top 200 ranking: 123

Manchester-based firm Colemans-ctts is a new entry in this year’s UK 200, despite a revenue drop of £1m in 2011–12 that saw total turnover fall from £17.9m to £16.9m. The reduction in fee income was largely due to the firm reducing its levels of road traffic accident (RTA) work, which had generated the most activity during the 2010–11 financial year. In contrast Colemans increased other personal injury work including travel and personal liability.

Colemans’ managing partner Janet Tilley has told The Lawyer that the firm does not intend to move away from RTA work, which remains a large part of its book, but is anticipating a return to increased volumes when the impact of legislative changes to fees and recoverability is known.

The firm’s 56 lawyers work across three key service areas — personal injury, litigation and conveyancing. Six of the 12 partners are equity status. The firm had an estimated lockup of 93 days at the end of the 2011–12 financial year.
