  • I feel really sorry for the hundreds of staff caught up in this who face losing their jobs.
Sadly this is not the first good firm to face this problem and with market conditions and change they won't be the last. This highlights the need for good strategic managment and financial control within these firms. Manchester Law school MMU addressed this for the sector in 2010 with their launch of the PG Cert in Legal Practice Management as most legal professionals have not had the bespoke training to help them manage their business and are still grappling with the prospect of new entrants in to the market.

  • Thank you Deborah. I'm quite sure that if only the partners at Cobbetts had had the foresight to take the PG Cert in Legal Practice Management, they would not be in this mess.

  • "Junker-Land in Bauernhand". Maybe some people should have paid more attention to the policies and ideologies of Wilhelm Pieck.

  • So glad this firm is closing. They took over Lee Crowder and in doing so destroyed the oldest firm in Birmingham. What once was a nice relaxing place to work was transformed into a nasty hell hole.

  • Sympathy does go out to the hard working mid ranking staff , admin and support but it shouldn't extend to the management of the businesswho during my time at Cobbetts I found to be arrogant, incompetent, duplicitous and out of touch. They were foolish enough to believe in their own publicity which led directly to the demise of the business. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

  • Hmm thanks for the insight Deborah (Business Development Manager at MMU's Law Schol). Full marks for trying. Not quite as tasteless as EAD's twitter advert. Close though.

  • So sad to read banal, judgemental and sarcastic comments. People lives will be effected by this and I see no need for such comments.

Good luck to all the staff, at all levels. I soncerely hope your jobs will be saved.

  • Cobbetts has been a great place to work & management has looked after staff by entering into this rescue package, if they hadn't it would have been catastrophic.
