Cobbetts is joining the US-based State Capital Law Firm Group, becoming the fifth member in the UK.
Stephen White, senior partner at Cobbetts, says he is delighted at the prospect of establishing relationships with law firms worldwide, adding it is important for clients to obtain global advice.
The State Capital Law Firm Group was formed by 17 former US State Governors who returned to private practice after their time in office. Its member firms have a reputation for close ties with state administrations. The group operates on a non-exclusive basis, referring work to fellow members only when it suits individual members.
The other UK law firms involved include Wragge & Co in Birmingham, Burnett in Glasgow and Edinburgh, Radcliffes in London, and Midlands firm Mills & Reeve.
In the US the group comprises 50 independent firms, with around 50 more in the rest of the world. In Europe members include Wessing & Berenberg-Gossler in Germany and Castro-Sveiro & Varela in Spain. It also has members in Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, Asia and Africa.
