Cobbetts has lost another senior partner, with Birmingham commercial head Simon Bates set to join Midlands rival Harvey Ingram's commerce and technology practice.
Bates, who will be based in Birmingham, will divide his time as practice head between the city and Harvey Ingram's Leicester headquarters.
The hire of Bates, who joins with a junior, brings the Birmingham office Harvey Ingram launched in April this year to six lawyers, including three partners. The commerce and technology practice has four lawyers in Leicester. The firm launched with a corporate practice, hiring partners from Hammonds and Wragge & Co.
Harvey Ingram managing partner Chris Finlay told The Lawyer: "Birmingham is a booming corporate market and things have gone far better for us than we hoped."
Bates' departure from Cobbetts follows that of corporate head Nicolas Fielden and property litigation head Martyn Liberson, who both quit in the past month. The firm announced in June that it was to shed 20 partners in a profitability drive.
