Cobbetts has won a tender against nine other firms for a near-exclusive partnership arrangement with Salford Council
The firm will effectively become an extension of the council's in-house legal team. The other firms involved in the tender were not disclosed by the council. But Cobbetts partner Tony Fitzmaurice said that the 10 firms were mainly from the North West. Cobbetts has been named a partner rather than a main legal adviser due to the extremely close relationship the firm will have with Salford Council's in-house team. The official line is that Cobbetts will 'complement' the council's in-house provision. "We will be more like the law firm they give all their work to, rather than an outside in-house team," said Fitzmaurice. "However, we're also helping each other with training and setting up secondments."
