WHERE had the “partners” got the money from, to begin with? My question, as always, is a part of the quest for transparency in the “law trade”. The preamble underlying my queries is this: If “licensed lawyers” behave as marketeers, profiteers, touts and such like then they lose any ground for being allowed the privileged access and the claim to audience in the country’s courts. It is time that the prevailing privileges were removed and replaced with a system that is in accord with the founding values of the United Nations Organisation which demonstrably is the latest set of codes that can be shown as the UPDATER of the much-touted contents of the Magna Carta. 1350 Hrs GMT Monday 21 January 2013 Reply Link Anonymous 21 January 2013 at 14:59 Where had the partners got the money from? Presumably from clients, after being instructed to advise on deals, cases and other matters where lawyers are generally needed! As for transparency: you too can download any law firm’s accounts from Companies House for £1 a time if they’re an LLP, which most of them are. Bargain. No point in taking it out of your hard earned profits! That would be too prudent. Reply Link Ididitagain 21 January 2013 at 18:01 CMS not UNO, Muhammad. Reply Link Baldrick's Pants 22 January 2013 at 13:38 I’m guessing, Mr Haque, that you have a long-seated major gripe against lawyers…Sorry to see that. Doubtless you will pursue whichever firm you feel has let you down through their approrpriate complaints channels rather than simply ‘having a go’ at lawyers generally. Meantime, if lawyers are such a bad lot, have you considered reading something else instead of THE LAWYER?
