Clyde & Co has put the Middle East at the heart of its strategic priorities, with a plan to hire at least 40 lawyers in the region during the next financial year.
The recruitment drive follows the firm's hiring spree last year that saw it hire 32 lawyers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and boost revenue in the Middle East by 60 per cent.
A source said this was not a hollow promise but a business necessity to facilitate work with busy clients, such as oil and gas services provider Lamprell, and Middle Eastern governments, including Yemen.
The firm is hiring partners and associates at all levels and is scouting talent from jurisdictions including South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. As part of the massive expansion, the firm has made it possible for trainees to rise to partnership in the region without a second stint in the UK. Trainees will spend one year in the UK and can then go to the UAE for another 12 months. They can then qualify while in the Middle East.
Larry Archer, HR manager for the Middle East, said: "The scheme means that the lawyers will have strong ties and understanding of the region but will be UK-qualified."
