Clydes hire boosts Simmons’ Dubai push

Simmons & Simmons has continued its Dubai push with the lateral hire of Vanessa Abernethy from Clyde & Co.

Corporate partner Abernethy, who was a senior associate at Clyde & Co, will be the sixth lawyer to join the Dubai corporate team in the past six months.

Simmons regional managing partner Paul Simpson said: “The appointment of Vanessa positions the Dubai office very well to take advantage of the significant opportunities in the regional corporate market.”

Simmons has been rebuilding its presence in the Middle East since losing Abu Dhabi managing partner Ibrahim Mubaydeen and structured finance partner Francois Duquette to Allen & Overy in June last year.

The Dubai office, which recently moved to the Dubai International Financial Centre, now numbers five partners and 20 associates.

Abernethy joins the five associates brought in to bulk up the corporate group in the past six months. They were George Papanikitis, Rose McCarthy, Salah Mostafa, Robert Wright and Zia Hashmi.

Abernethy specialises in securities law, IPOs and financial services and regulatory issues and has been working in the region for three years.
