Clyde & Co deploys London shipping partner to head Singapore office

Clyde & Co has named senior shipping and dispute resolution partner Brian Nash as its new managing partner for Singapore, with Nash relocating from London to the city state for the new post.

Nash has also been appointed to the firm’s Asia regional board to help facilitate the newly merged firm’s future development in the region. He is the second senior partner to relocate from London to Asia in the past few years. In 2010, Michael Parker, a former member of the firm’s global board, relocated to Hong Kong as the firm’s Asia-Pacific managing director.

During Nash’s 25 years with Clydes, he has held several senior positions, including being a member of the firm’s elected global management board, head of shipping in London, and head of dispute resolution in the Middle East.

Clydes has been through a period of growth in Asia, with the firm’s partner numbers in the region growing from 12 to 23 in the past 12 months. Notable recent lateral hires include former Minter Ellison partner Ian Cocking and former Stephenson Harwood partner Gilbert Kwok (20 September 2011). The firm currently has more than 110 lawyers across Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore.

Parker commented in the firm’s statement: “The appointment of Brian enhances our dispute resolution offering to clients, which is a key priority of the firm. This is a very exciting time for us and these developments are just the start of many more to come in the Asia Pacific region.”

Last November, the firm announced that it has agreed an association with local Singaporean firm Clasis LLC, which is a separate entity to Clydes’ Indian best friend Clasis Law (24 October 2011). It is understood that the firm is looking at possible expansion into Beijing and Australia in the short to medium term.
