Clifford Chance taps Linklaters for NY hire" />Clifford Chance has turned to magic circle rival Linklaters for its latest New York partner hire, signing up tax lawyer Robert Thornton Smith.
The hire of Thornton Smith, who joined Linklaters from White & Case 10 years ago, brings Clifford Chance's New York tax partner headcount to six.
David Moldenhauer (pictured), the firm's head of tax for the Americas, said: "Bob provides an excellent level of experience, having been an outstanding lawyer in the New York market for over 30 years."
Moldenhauer added that Thornton Smith will help the firm foster organic growth in New York and Washington DC.
"His experience will be a tremendous asset to our associates," Brown said. "With a wealth of knowledge in this sector, he will be able to help educate our junior lawyers and help bring these lawyers up through the ranks."
Thornton Smith's experience includes advising on US federal taxation on a variety of transactions, such as structured financing, acquisitions and divestitures, general corporate tax planning and offshore funds.
