Clifford Chance has beefed up its London high yield practice with the relocation of a partner from its New York office.
Tony Lopez is expected to join the City team by the end of this month and is already working between London and New York as part of the transition.
The move follows a string of deals in which Lopez has worked with London partners, including advising Carmeuse on its $375m seven-year high-yield bond issue earlier this year.
It also marks part of the firm’s push towards a stronger high yield practice covering higher-level deals and increases the London high yield partner count to five.
Clifford Chance London high yield partner Michael Dakin said: “Today deals are utilising a variety of structures and frequently see both loan and bond elements at the same level. These deals require detailed structuring and a wealth of experience across a variety of jurisdictions that very few firms can comprehensively deliver.”
Lopez, a corporate and securities lawyer, joined the magic circle firm as a partner in 2006 from Cahill Gordon & Reindel.
His relocation follows the rehire of Dakin last autumn after a year in-house at Future Group in Dubai (9 September 2010).
