Clifford Chance: no longer the worst employer in the US

Clifford Chance is no longer the worst law firm to work for in the US, according to the latest associates survey by The American Lawyer.

The survey reveals that the firm leapt 31 places from bottom to 128th out of 159 – the biggest increase in the survey – after concerted efforts by the management to pacify its associates.

Last year’s survey by The American Lawyer prompted the infamous associate memo, which detailed lawyers’ unhappiness at their working conditions and partners’ apparent dismissal of pro bono work.

In response to associates’ unhappiness, the US management made pro bono work part of the appraisal process and revamped its mentoring and work assignment systems.
