Clifford Chance has announced corporate specialist Jaime Velázquez as managing partner of its Spanish offices following a vote, succeeding longstanding country chief Ignacio Ojanguren.
Velázquez, a corporate partner at the firm since 2005, has been elected for a four-year term in charge of the firm’s Madrid and Barcelona bases from 1 May. He previously led the firm’s Barcelona office between 2007 and 2011 after joining from magic circle rival Allen & Overy (22 June 2005).
He replaces Ojanguren following the latter’s 12 years at the helm of the Spanish business. Ojanguren also represented continental Europe on the global management committee for four years.
Velázquez said in a statement: “I’m fully committed to working together with our team in Madrid and Barcelona to reinforce our current leading position in the Spanish legal market.”
Clifford Chance global managing partner David Childs added: “I’d like to thank Ignacio for his excellent contribution to the firm both locally and on a global level during his time as managing partner in Spain. And I extend my congratulations to Jaime in being elected to lead the Spanish offices for the next four years. I look forward to working with him closely.”
