Clifford Chance looks to have turned the tide on its shrinking New York office with the hire of real estate partner Howard Peskoe from US rival Winston & Strawn.
Peskoe joins as co-chair of the real estate practice in the Americas, alongside current chairman David Djaha. He was previously a partner in Winston & Strawn’s New York real estate team.
Clifford Chance’s volatile New York office has struggled following a series of partner losses. Most recently the office lost civil litigation specialists Kelia Ravelo and Wesley Powell to a raid by Hunton & Williams in late July.
Other high profile departures have included the loss of its entire heavy-hitting, five-partner, 15-associate bankruptcy and restructuring team to US firm Kaye Scholer in February.
However the firm looks to have redressed this trend in recent months. Peskoe’s appointment follows that of highly rated White & Case insurance partner Nick Williams in June and Goldman Sachs legal director and associate general counsel Elaine Laurence in March.
