Clifford Chance partner Alex Panayides is leading Australian builder Multiplex’s £60m claim against contractor Cleveland Bridge, which it says is partly responsible for delays to Wembley’s construction.
Walker Morris’s Martin Scott is acting for steelworks company Cleveland Bridge, which is counter-claiming for £20m in lost earnings. In 2004 the firm won a first-round victory for its client, securing a £1.95m award for breach of contract.
Cleveland Bridge was responsible for building the new stadium’s signature steel arch, but left the project shortly after its erection in summer 2004.
The case is being heard before Mr Justice Jackson in the Technology & Construction Court.
Scott has instructed Matrix Chambers’ Hugh Tomlinson QC for Cleveland Bridge. Four New Square head Roger Stewart QC is instructed by Panayides for Multiplex.
