Clifford Chance has named Eiichi Kanda as the new managing partner of its Tokyo office as incumbent Peter Kilner relocates to Hong Kong.
Capital markets partner Kanda will assume the role on 27 July. He joined the magic circle firm’s Tokyo office, formerly Tanaka Akita & Nakagawa, as a partner in 2001 (19 Febuary 2001).
Clifford Chance’s managing partner Peter Charlton said there remained opportunitites for growth in the Japanese market. “We remain committed as ever to Tokyo and the outlook for our practice is very bright. Despite global economic uncertainties, we continue to see potential for growth in the market,” Charlton said.
The current office managing partner Peter Kilner will be relocating to Hong Kong after four years in the management role and a total of nine years working in the firm’s Tokyo office. With 20 years of international finance experience, Kilner will provide support to the banking and finance practices in Tokyo and Hong Kong. He will split his time between both cities and continue to service his Japanese clients.
