Clifford Chance has elected Jonathan Solomon as head of its London real estate practice following the announcement that outgoing chief Cliff McAuley is to retire.
McAuley, who is also the magic circle firm’s global practice head, will retire at the end of the year. An election for the global role will be held in the autumn.
Solomon, a partner since 2000, said: “This is an exciting role. Clearly there are challenges ahead as we and our clients emerge from very difficult market conditions, but I’m confident that our focus on a quality ’one stop shop’ with in-depth know-how continues to distinguish us from competitors for transactions where the stakes are high.
“I look forward to building on this over the next few years.”
The two partners will work closely together for the next six months up until McAuley’s retirement in December.
McAuley commented: “I’ve found this role hugely fulfilling and rewarding and am delighted to hand the baton on to Jonathan. I wish him and the practice all the best for the future.”
