Clifford Chance has named Kiev partner Jared Grubb as managing partner of the office.
Banking partner Grubb replaces Nick Fletcher, who has led the office since it launched in 2008. Fletcher will return to Warsaw, where he was managing partner prior to relocating to Ukraine.
Earlier this year The Lawyer reported that Grubb relocated to Kiev to bulk up the office’s banking capabilities (15 May 2009).
Grubb said: “When we launched we focused on corporate, banking and finance and real estate. Like many other firms we have much more of a focus on restructuring.”
Grubb added that approximately 60 per cent of Kiev’s work is restructuring.
While the magic circle firm’s Ukrainian office draws on Moscow and London-based debt restructuring there is a need for more locally qualified lawyers.
Grubb said: “We have capabilities in London and Moscow and we work very closely in this area but we need to recruit for Ukrainian qualified lawyers.”
