Clementi promises 'root and branch' review of regulation

David Clementi, the Prudential chairman appointed by the Government to overhaul legal services in England and Wales, is to issue a consultation document early next year seeking responses on the future of regulation for the profession.

"I really want to hear what people have to say on the issues. This is an opportunity to contribute to a root and branch review of regulation of legal services - I would encourage all to engage in the process," he said on Monday 20 October.

Clementi, who is chairman of Prudential, is embarking on an 18-month review of the regulatory framework, which could see changes to the regulatory powers of the Law Society and the Bar Council.
