A Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton partner is returning to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as general counsel and senior policy director.
David Becker, a capital markets and regulatory specialist has spent the past seven years at Cleary in the firm’s Washington, DC office. Previously, Becker was general counsel at the SEC from 2000 until 2002 after joining the SEC as deputy general counsel in 1998.
New York Cleary partner Francesca Odell said: “He is a fantastic lawyer and will definitely be missed. David has a great sense of public service and he views this role as a continuation of this service.”
SEC chairman Mary Schapiro said: “Investors will benefit tremendously from his commitment and experience. David’s wisdom and careful judgement make him well-suited to play this dual leadership role.”
