Legendary Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton partner Edward Greene has quit the firm to become general counsel of Citigroup’s Global Corporate and Investment Banking Group (CGIB).
Greene will report to Robert Druskin, president and chief executive officer of the GCIB, and to Michael Helfer, general counsel of Citigroup.
Greene joined Cleary Gottlieb in 1982. Prior to joining the firm, he was general counsel of the Securities and Exchange Commission from 1981-1982, and director of the Division of Corporation Finance from 1979-1981. Prior to joining the Securities and Exchange Commission he was engaged in private practice in New York.
His practice at Cleary involved advising on mergers and acquisitions, securitisation of assets, distributions of securities in domestic and international financings and enforcement proceedings before the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
