Clarke Willmott elects litigation head to top post as it boosts partner numbers

South west firm Clarke Willmott & Clarke has elected a managing partner and promoted seven new partners to the practice.

David Sedgwick, a partner at the firm since 1980 and head of the litigation department, will take over as managing partner from Tony Monds. Monds will retire from the firm this month.

Sedgwick, based at the firm's head office in Bristol, says: "We have made enormous progress over recent years, based on a strategy for the region of focusing our growing resources in three major centres Bristol, Taunton and Yeovil."

Last year only two were promoted to partnership level with one lateral hire.

The internal partners promoted this year are: David Bollington (corporate); Rachel Carter (commercial); David Emanuel (corporate), Rebecca Marshall (family); Emma Ramsay (employment); Maggie Roberts (family); and Philip Tebbatt (banking).

Clarke Willmott now has 43 partners and has also promoted three staff to senior associate and a further 13 to associate.
