City misses out as K&L Gates makes up 47 partners across its network

K&L Gates has promoted 47 lawyers to its partnership across 21 of its offices, with 10 new partners coming in from Europe but no new partners named from London.

The global number marks an increase on the 30 lawyers K&L Gates promoted this time last year (24 January 2012), although there has been no increase on the number of lawyers promoted in the City, which has dropped from one to zero.

The promotions, which will become effective on 1 March, span the firm’s US offices as well as its outfits in Berlin, Brussels, Frankfurt, Paris, Warsaw and Shanghai.

Although no lawyers were made up in London, chairman Peter Kalis told The Lawyer in an interview last year that expansion in Asia, Europe and the US has previously resulted in a “tremendous” uptick in inbound work to London (1 October 2012).

Since then, K&L Gates has gained presences in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane through a merger with Australian firm Middletons (4 December 2012).

The firm also became one of the first US firms to land on the ground in Seoul after receiving final approval from the Korean Ministry of Justice in November (15 November 2012).
