  • Makes sense to me. Sure what do the students care, they'll still be getting their excessive salary at the end of it.

  • In the case of Freshfields, this is not true - they are still paying the same amount of maintenance.

  • That said, the period between finishing the LLB/GDL and starting at the firm is exactly the same - firms aren't moving forward students' training contract start dates.

    Being a 'maintenance' grant, I thought the purpose would be to maintain future joiners until they start work at the firm, with the studying, though obviously required, being almost coincidental in nature. Just because students will face a few months where they're not studying, it doesn't mean living costs will automatically drop to zero for that interim period.
