City lawyer's Japanese role

Barrister Andrew Fitch-Holland has been appointed executive director and general counsel at Sumitomo Finance International (SFI), a subsidiary of Japanese-owned Sumitomo Bank.

Fitch-Holland has worked in the City for the last eight years, most recently as legal adviser to the debt and derivatives trading group at ING Barings.

Sumitomo has been building up its SFI investment banking subsidiary by recruiting heavily from City institutions. Barings' credit rating team jumped ship and joined SFI in 1995.

Fitch-Holland's brief is to develop a legal department at SFI. His responsibilities include overseeing transactions and liaising with the company's external legal advisers.
