City firms line up for £400m Hull schools project

Addleshaw Goddard, DLA Piper, Eversheds and Pinsent Masons have advised on a £400m Building Schools for the Future (BSF) scheme in Hull.

Hull BSF is a 25-year project, involving a total of seven new-build schemes and 10 remodels or refurbishment projects.

Hull City Council was advised by Addleshaws partner Andrew Pettinger, while Eversheds partner Adrian Turner advised a consortium made up of Morgan Sindall Investments, Robertson Capital Projects and the Sewell Group.

Pinsents advised SPV member and longstanding client Morgan Sindall, together with Masons legacy client and Morgan Sindall subsidiary and construction company Morgan Ashurst, on the building and design documentation.

Pinsents partner Jon Hart, who was assisted by senior associate Annette Blane, said BSF projects are continuing to offer opportunities for his client.

“If you’re appointed preferred bidder on the first stage you get exclusive rights on later developments,” he explained. “Morgan Ashurst and Sewell Construction are joint lead construction partners, although the projects will be shared out. It’s a way of empowering local construction companies.”

The funders Nationwide and the Cooperative Banks were advised by DLA Piper partner Stephen Johns.
