City firm markets its own Internet guide

CITY firm Fox Williams has successfully marketed a legal guide to the Internet by including an order form for the booklet on its Web site.

The firm has so far received more than 100 orders for the booklet, called The Internet: a Legal Survival Guide for Business, written by its IT partner Nigel Miller.

"We have been giving the booklet to our clients free of charge, but decided to offer it out to other companies for £15," he said.

"It has proved a worthwhile exercise. People surfing the Web have clearly come across our site and liked the look of the booklet."

In the guide, Miller, a specialist in Internet law, defines the Internet as "a place where you can obtain information or meet people". He warns that the widespread view that "the Internet is lawless and without structure" is a myth.

He writes: "There are many laws that apply to Internet use. Most of these were not specifically designed for the Internet, but are traditional legal principles which have to be applied to use of the Internet."
