Richards Butler has scooped a glamorous new client
Following a referral from his US lawyer the firm won work from director Rob-ert Altman and the producers of the film Gosford Park. Partner Barry Smith advised Altman on all UK production issues, including negotiating artists' contracts with stars such as Dame Maggie Smith and Helen Mirren and location agreements. Smith also worked in conjunction with Altman's US adviser George Sheanshang, a partner at specialist entertainment and new media firm Selverne Mandelbaum & Mintz on some elements of the financing behind the film. While Gosford Park boasts a cast that reads like a Who's Who of UK acting talent, the law firms involved are equally well-known names for entertainment work: SJ Berwin advised on the Capital Films financing and Olswang acted for the Film Council.
