MORE THAN 10 experienced lawyers are to be taken on as part of a recruitment drive by big City firm Herbert Smith.
The new staff are being recruited for the corporate department and will bring the number of lawyers employed by the firm across the globe to about 500.
Herbert Smith is looking for solicitors from eight disciplines following its appointment to work on a number of major corporate projects.
Corporate partner Stephen Barnard said the firm also took on 33 newly-qualified solicitors this month.
He said at least 10 staff were required with experience of areas including banking, construction, projects, mergers, corporate and project finance, and debt and equity markets.
The firm's order book includes major project deals such as the Channel Tunnel rail link and a new centre for the Civil Aviation Authority, more than six hospital trust projects and 15 listed company takeovers.
Barnard said: "If you take projects, project finance and construction, that is a boom area. If you are doing these big jobs, you need experienced people and experienced teams available."
