C&I Group regroups after London split

The Law Society’s group for in-house lawyers, the Commerce & Industry (C&I) Group, has elected a new chair after last week’s resignation of candidate Anthony Armitage.

Stanley Williams – Director of Legal Affairs & Company Secretary at BSi – will replace Carol Williams as chair of the national group and also of its incorporated arm, C&I Group Services Ltd., from January.

The news comes a week after Armitage, the group’s London chair and a director of the limited company, resigned and withdrew his candidacy from the national elections.

Armitage also announced that the London arm of the C&I Group was to form a breakaway, becoming the In House Lawyers’ Association.

However, the C&I Group announced this week that they consider the position of chair of the London region to be vacant, and are looking to appoint Armitage’s replacement in order to “stabilise and re-energise this key region”.

An emergency meeting of the group is due to be held at the Law Society tomorrow (Thursday 28 October) to discuss the situation.
