Christmas birds hamper QC selection process

Some folk are always up for a bit of a row.

The return of QC appointments last year caused much consternation around the Inns and this year looks like being no exception.

Clerks and would-be QCs were most upset that they would have to fill out their application forms over Christmas.

However, once the difficulties were pointed out to the panel, they quickly gave a fortnight's extension. Most of the specialist bar associations only asked for a fortnight and that seemed fair enough, but there's no pleasing some people.

According to one clerk, the deadline was discriminatory against women because they would be too busy cooking Christmas dinner. Which begs the question: who is doing the discriminating here?
