Chris McKinney
Chris McKinney qualified as a solicitor in 1984. He joined Access Legal from Shoosmiths in July 2010. He was previously a partner at Ironsides Solicitors and most recently Nelsons Solicitors.
McKinney has been undertaking personal injury claims for 30 years and has specialised for more than 20 years. He only acts for the victims of accidents.
He is an accredited member of the Law Society Personal Injury Panel and a member of APIL and the Spinal Injuries Association.
Brain injury
McKinney has a particular interest in brain injury claims and has won numerous £1m-plus compensation claims for the victims of such accidents and several multi-million-pound claims.
He has concluded claims both on a lump-sum basis and also on the basis of a periodical payments order.
He is currently instructed in more than a dozen brain injury claims, the majority of which are worth in excess of £1m.
McKinney is a member of the Headway Panel. He is a trustee and company secretary of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Headway — the Brain Injury Association, and a member of the Northampton Acquired Brain Injury Forum.
Spinal injury
He has developed a keen interest and expertise in spinal injury cases. He has acted for clients who have suffered both quadriplegic and paraplegic injuries and has negotiated the settlement of claims on a periodical payments basis.
He is currently instructed in a number of multi-million-pound spinal injury cases, one of which has an international flavour, as it is on behalf of a wealthy Indian national who suffered injury while a student in England.
Amputation injuries
As well as acting in brain injury and spinal injury cases, McKinney has undertaken many claims for inured people who have suffered amputation injuries and catastrophic injuries that have resulted in surgical amputations.
He is currently acting for individuals who have suffered both lower-limb and upper-limb amputations.
Fatal accident claims
McKinney has conducted claims on behalf of the deceased spouse and the children of the deceased in accidents that have occurred both on the road and at work.
Advocacy
He undertakes much of his own advocacy and regularly appears as an advocate in inquests and in the county and High Court.
