What is the most unusual Christmas present that you have received from a colleague? I couldn’t say. I actually go red thinking about it.
Name: Chris Hinze
Firm: Hogan Lovells
Position: Head of corporate communications
Lives: South London
What time do you start work each day?
If you include faffing about with a BlackBerry then about half seven.
What’s the most boring thing you’ve been asked to do in your job?
Reading page after page after page after page of legal directory submissions and website copy.
How much time do you spend on Facebook each week?
Maybe an hour or so - mainly on the train swapping status updates and messages with friends and other team members.
What is the most unusual Christmas present that you have received from a colleague?
I couldn’t say. I actually go red thinking about it.
If you could introduce one law, what would it be and why?
Having a naughty step in the workplace. Putting people on it for five to 10 minutes could work wonders.
How did you spend your last bonus? (If you have never received a bonus, how would you hope to spend it in the future)?
Sadly it went on credit cards and savings. My dream would be a yacht. I suspect I need to move into investment banking for that.
What are the best perks of your role?
Hoarding and scoffing the jelly beans we provide for the annual press party.
What do you wear on dress-down Fridays?
A pair of Jeremy Clarkson style jeans and a jumper that could be a blatant herald of middle age.
Have you ever been asked to do anything at work that you suspect might have been illegal?
No - it has always been almost embarrassingly clean.
What is the most irritating habit of any partner you’ve worked for?
At a former firm I used to get ranting emails from a certain partner once the pubs had closed after lunch. That was a bit of a pain to deal with.
How do you unwind after the end of a hard week?
Punching and kicking things. And using fireworks.
Do you see your colleagues on weekends?
Only if they update their Facebook status. Or if they come see me set off fireworks.
Have you ever fallen in love at work? (If so, please provide details).
My wife is a lawyer from a former firm. She was working on a client project that needed media support and things blossomed from there….
If you were a lawyer what would your practice area be and why?
Litigation or anti-trust. The lawyers I’ve worked with in those areas always seem to be having much more fun than me.
What do you eat for lunch?
Anyone who hasn’t done their homework about us.
Is your salary (in thousands) greater than your age?
What items do you always carry around with you at work?
A document folder from my Andersen days. A black sense of humour. A sharp tongue.
Who do you have photos of on your desk?
Um, I have an org chart of the team with their photos. That could be seen as a bit creepy though.
Corney & Barrow or The Royal Exchange?
Soy Latte or Nescafe?
Nescafe. Builder’s tea would be better.
City break or weekend in the country?
Weekend by the sea. With big scary looking waves for bodyboarding. Chauffeuring children is a more likely outcome though.
Sum up your firm, chambers or employer in three words.
We are a ’legal practice’. Global. Friendly. Ambitious.
