Cheryl Cole's record label revamps legal team

Universal Music UK, the record label for names such as Cheryl Cole and Lady Gaga, has promoted two of its legal team to the roles of director, legal and business.

Jackie Joseph, who trained at Speechly Bircham, has been promoted to director, legal and business with responsibility for Decca, Universal Music Catalogue, Sanctuary, Synchronisation Licensing and Universal Music Ireland.

She joined Universal Music UK from Instant Karma in March 2002 as a legal and business affairs manager before becoming head of legal and business affairs for UCJ, UMTV and Ireland in January 2005.

Meanwhile Oswin Brenner has been promoted to director, legal and business with responsibility for UMTV, All Around The World, Fiction, Future Records and Luv Luv Luv Records. Brenner joined Polydor from boutique music law firm SSB in May 2006 as a senior legal and business affairs Manager. He subsequently began assisting sister labels UCJ and UMTV.

Joseph and Brenner report directly into Clive Fisher, executive vice president of Universal Music UK, while Brenner also has a direct line into James Radice, senior director, legal and business affairs for Polydor.

  • "Cheryl Cole's record label revamps legal team" as a headline? Is this the depth's one has to stoop in order to get search engine optimisation into a legal journal's headline?

  • Clearly beefing up the legal team following the release of "Fight for this love" - comfortably the worst song of 2009.

  • Is this to fend off the law suits from everyone who has had to endure countless horrific hours of Cheryl on tv, and also for refunds for the worst album of the decade?

  • Was the reason for the revamp that the team was felt to be Dull, Limp, Lifeless..?

  • What a total joke of a headline. Attention The Lawyer journalists: if you want to be treated seriously by the legal profession (i.e. your readership), then don't try to sex up your headlines like this.

    DISAPPOINTED.

  • IT IS NOT A SEXED UP HEADLINE. IT IS WHAT IT IS. HOW IS THE CONTENT DIFFERENT FROM THE HEADLINE? THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE, SERIOUSLY. OH, BY THE WAY, WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE WORD "CONGRATULATIONS"?

  • by the way ,whatever happened to expressing yourself with language rather than hitting 'Caps Lock' before the bordedom?

  • Is The Lawyer turning into a trashy tabloid? Just adding the name 'Cheryl Cole' into the title for no other reason other than to get clicks on the search engines only goes to undermine this publication.

I believe "Universal Music revamps legal team" is the correct and more relevant title.
