Charles Russell has achieved an 18 per cent increase in turnover on last year, with average profits per equity partner up by 25 per cent
Its turnover was £35.6m in 2000 compared with £30m in 1999, as reported in The Lawyer 100 Survey. Equity partners made an average of £250,000 profit this year, an increase on last year's £190,000. The most senior equity partners earned £270,000 this year, representing a pay rise of £70,000 for those at the top, who earned £200,000 last year. Bottom of equity was £192,000 compared with last year's £120,000. Managing partner Grant Howell attributed the increase in turnover and excellent rise in equity partner earnings to the growth of the firm's corporate practice over the year. The company commercial department, which incorporates the media and communications group, saw the greatest rise after taking on names such as Ericsson, ITN and Border Television. Recent lateral hire Duncan Lamont brought ITN and Border Television to the firm.
