London firm Charles Russell is expanding again by snapping up Surrey practice Fordyce & Co, bringing its partner tally to 47.
Earlier this month Charles Russell announced it had taken on a number of fee earners from Compton Carr, based in London's West End. Comptons has disbanded, with half its staff going to Charles Russell, and the others to London firm Teacher Stern Selby.
Fordyces & Co's offices in Egham, Surrey, will close and the operation merged with Charles Russell's Guildford office, which will double in size. The firm is taking extra office space in Guildford to absorb the increase in personnel.
The expanded Guildford practice will have a number of Surrey-based clients in general business and residential property markets. It will also maintain a private client division.
Charles Russell's senior partner John South said: "We believe this development will help us to become one of Guildford's leading all-round firms, with all the advantages of specialist expertise which will be available from our main office in London."
Charles Russell's London office has an established reputation in areas such as commercial property, new media and communications, insurance and work for national charities.
Rory Fordyce, senior partner at Fordyce & Co, said: "We have a complimentary client base, a similar range of services and a similar ethos in terms of our professional standards."
He added: "Our clients will benefit from our ability to call on Charles Russell's expertise in areas such as intellectual property, employment and tax, and will enjoy the benefits of the considerable IT resources of the firm, which will improve the efficiency of the service we are able to offer."
