Charles Russell moots four-day week to stave off redundancies" />Charles Russell has given lawyers the option of a four-day week as it starts redundancy consultations with an unspecified number of staff.
The firm refused to reveal how many lawyers are in redundancy talks, although it did confirm that a number of partners, fee earners and support staff were being given the option of working a four-day week.
Charles Russell saw its turnover rise 13.1 per cent at the 2007-08 year end, up from £63.5m, while its average profits per equity partner (PEP) stood at £390,000, an increase of 10.2 per cent on the previous year.
It is the second firm to confirm it is putting lawyers on a four-day week. Gloucester based BPE Solicitors said it was making the move because it was preferable to making mass redundancies (29 January).
BPE senior partner John Workman (pictured) said: "Our vision statement says we're committed to and respectful of our people and we want to stand by that by getting to the other side [of the recession] with as little casualties as possible. It's the right thing to do."
