Channel 4 names new legal head

Channel 4 names new legal headChannel 4 has promoted Prash Naik to the role of controller of legal, replacing Jan Tomalin, who has left to set up her own firm.

Naik will be responsible for all legal and compliance issues at Channel 4, reporting to finance director Anne Bulford. Previously Naik was deputy head of legal.

Naik has been with Channel 4 for more than 14 years and during that time has secured the broadcast of high-profile shows such as Brass Eye and Ali G and was part of the team that secured the release of kidnapped journalist Sean Langan.

Kevin Lygo, Channel 4’s director of television and content, said: “Prash has been absolutely instrumental in getting many of our most important and provocative programmes on air, as well as effectively defending them both in court and before regulatory bodies.”

Tomalin joined Channel 4’s legal team as a newly qualified lawyer in 1988 and headed the team from 1992 until her departure this December.
