This year, for the first time, The Lawyer has augmented its annual awards-related charity fundraising with a Christmas appeal. With the invaluable assistance of our chosen charities – the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Trust and ChildHope – we hope to raise even more money to add to the £94,136 raised in June. To highlight this year’s appeal, we sent two lawyers on field visits to both charities, with all costs covered by The Lawyer. Each has written an account of the work the charities do and how the money you donated is spent. Calyon in-house lawyer Jonathan Wood spent three days in Tanzania at the Mkombozi project; his heart-rending report offers an insight into the hellish existence of thousands of street children and how ChildHope is helping make their lives better. Clare O’Brien, a Cobbetts associate, visited the CF Trust’s laboratories at the Brompton Hospital. Her report opens the door on the world-class facilities, while also offering an insight into the terrible effects that CF has on sufferers.
