Chadbourne sets sights on Istanbul practice

US firm Chadbourne & Parke is planning to launch an office in Istanbul later this year.

The firm has built up an impressive roster of Turkish clients since hiring partner Ayse Yüksel from Debevoise & Plimpton’s New York office in 2004. They include Koza Altin, Koç Holding and Koza Gold.

Yüksel, who is currently based in Dubai, will be joined by five other Turkish lawyers at Chadbourne. While the firm has not yet applied for a practising licence, Yüksel confirmed it was already in talks with a number of local partners.

“We have serious plans for Istanbul,” Yüksel said. “Turkish clients are encouraging us to have Turkish-qualified lawyers on the ground.”

Yüksel also acts for private equity house The Carlyle Group and Dubai International Capital. If the firm gets regulatory approval the office will focus on M&A, private equity and capital markets.
