Chadbourne raids Thacher Proffitt for Mexico launch

Chadbourne & Parke has snared a three-partner team from Thacher Proffitt & Wood to launch an office in Mexico, the firm’s first in Latin America.

Partners Marc Rossell and Oliver Armas, will join the firm’s New York office from Thacher Proffitt while partner Boris Otto will join the firm’s new Mexico office together with Jose Antonio Chavez and Luis Enrique Graham, who join from Thacher Proffitt’s Mexican association.

Chadbourne corporate head and co-head of the firm’s Latin American group, Allen Miller, commented: “We’ve been active in Latin America since the mid 1990s. Our strength in emerging markets as well as a core practice group energy has meant we have good opportunities in the region.”

The firm hopes to launch its Mexico office with at least 20 lawyers with a view to building up the office in litigation, corporate and capital markets.

Miller commented: “Some of our competitors in the region focus mainly on one area such as corporate but we have made sure we can draw on our strengths in capital markets, corporate, litigation and energy to develop our firm in Latin America.”

Last May the firm launched its office in Dubai with partner Jack Greenwald leading the firm’s capabilities in the jurisdiction.

Miller said: “Our emphasis on emerging markets fits extremely well with our practice group focus. Having an on the ground presence in emerging markets is crucial for us.”
