CC’s Indian ally merges with Bangalore firm

Clifford Chance’s Indian ally AZB & Partners has extended its presence in India via a merger with the Bangalore firm of Anup Shah.

The tie-up doubles AZB’s capacity in Bangalore and also gives the firm a base in Chennai and Hyderabad for the first time, according to LegallyIndia.com.

Shah set up his sole proprietor practice, which focuses primarily on real estate work, in 1993. He will become managing partner of AZB’s Bangalore office, which he joins as an equity partner.

Shah joins AZB along with 18 other lawyers in Bangalore, five in Chennai and three in Hyderabad.

Clifford Chance and AZB have been allies since the beginning of this year, when they signed a best friends agreement (14 January 2009).

Since then the magic circle firm has set up a network of partners to manage the relationship with AZB (2 February 2009) and has also sent India practice head Chris Wyman on secondment to the India firm (8 June 2009).
