Clifford Chance Wong, the firm's Singapore partnership, set a new standard there last month when it advised on the world's first Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) India exchange-traded fund to be listed in the country.
The fund, iShares MSCI India, which is designed and managed by the Clifford Chance wong-advised Barclays Global Investors Southeast Asia Limited, was listed on the Singapore Exchange in mid-June.
The fund is understood to be the first of its kind outside India to offer investors access to the fast-growing Indian equities market. It will track the MSCI India Index, which covers at least 85 per cent of each industry group in the Indian market. Clifford Chance has carved itself a nice little niche in fund work in the region, with its other fund instructions including advising on the first exchange-traded fund in Hong Kong and the first infrastructure fund to list in Singapore.
This latest deal was led by Clifford Chance Singapore funds practice head Ho Han Ming.
