Clifford Chance has been appointed as legal advisor to the International Rugby Board (IRB) for next year’s Rugby World Cup.
Clifford Chance will advise the IRB and its commercial affiliate Rugby World Cup Limited in connection for the preparation and staging of the tournament, held in France, Wales and Scotland between 7 September and 20 October 2007.
The win follows recent sporting assignments for Clifford Chance such as contributing to the drafting of legal reforms in sports law in France. The firm played roles advising the organisation committees of the past two international sporting events in France - the FIFA World Cup 1998 and the 2003 track and field world championships held in Paris.
Clifford Chance will work with Rugby World Cup general counsel Darren Bailey. Clifford Chance Paris managing partner Yves Wehrli and intellectual property partner Jean-Frédéric Gaultier are leading the team.
