Clifford Chance Pünder partners Peter Nägele and Hans-Josef Schneider are going head-to-head in a battle to become Germany's next managing partner
Real estate lawyer and Europe managing partner Nägele will take on the current joint Germany managing partner and finance lawyer Schneider. Co-managing partner of Germany Michael Weller is not standing as he is returning to transactional work to focus on banking and structured finance. The vote is planned for the end of April. There will also be changes to the German management board. There are presently three board members - Weller, Schneider and general manager Bodo Schönhage. However, the discussions for change are ongoing and a decision will not be reached until after the elections. Both Schneider and Nägele come from the Pünder side of the merger, but each has a different plan for the management structure. If Schneider wins the election then Weller will maintain a management role; however, if Nägele wins he will not.
