David Childs was today confirmed as Clifford Chance managing partner as the firm-wide vote closed this afternoon.
Childs, currently chief operating officer (COO) at the global firm, has been elected unopposed after a two-week voting process. He will succeed Peter Cornell and relinquish his COO role, which will be scrapped.
The vote was a formality after Paris managing partner Yves Wehrli - considered to be the only other serious candidate - indicated that he would not be standing. For the last three weeks Childs has been making presentations around the firm’s network on his strategy for his term of office.
Childs told The Lawyer: “I’m delighted and honoured to take on this role. We’ve significantly improved profitability and we’re likely to have our strongest year ever for revenue.”
“My priorities include improving our client base generally, maintaining our profitability drive, continuing our support for our US practice and driving forward our development in Europe and Asia.”
Childs added: “I firmly believe we are well placed to pull away from the competition to achieve our vision of becoming the law firm of choice for clients wherever we practise.”
